Scholarships Distributed by the Community
Foundation of Marquette County
The Community Foundation of Marquette County distributes over $130,000 annually in scholarships to benefit aspiring students in Marquette County. Below is a list of the scholarships held at the Foundation. Scholarship recipients are determined by different committees, please see How to Apply for a Scholarship for more detailed information.
Gwinn Scholarships
Brian Watson Scholarship
Awarded to a graduating senior of Gwinn Area Community Schools pursuing higher education, who is pursuing a degree in one of the STEM fields and demonstrates a financial need.
Coach Dion Brown Memorial Scholarship
Be a graduating senior of Gwinn Area Community Schools pursuing higher education, and who demonstrates school and/or community leadership through involvement in extracurricular activities (not limited to athletic).
Cohodas Scholarship
Provides scholarships to graduating Gwinn High School seniors who are pursuing a certificate or degree at an institution of higher education, and who demonstrate need.
Gwinn Community Schools Alunni Scholarship
Be a graduating senior of Gwinn Area Community Schools pursuing higher education and are residents of the Gwinn Area School District and hold at least a 3.0 GPA.
Joan Erickson/Gwinn VFW 5670 & Auxiliary Scholarship
Provides scholarships to graduating seniors of Gwinn High School who are pursuing a certificate or degree at an institution of higher education in the field of nursing or another medically related field, and who demonstrates “qualities of giving, caring and sharing”.
McCormick/Harju Scholarship
Provides scholarships for graduating seniors from Gwinn High School who are pursuing post-secondary education with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Metzner Scholarship
Provides scholarships to graduating Gwinn High School seniors, based on demonstrated academic achievement and need for scholarship, who have attended Gwinn High School for two full years, and are pursuing post-secondary education.
Philip A. Spade and Ruth M. Spade Scholarship
Provides scholarships which benefit students educated in the Gwinn Public School System from elementary school through graduation, with particular emphasis on attendance at George D. Gilbert Elementary School.
Richard Murphy/Gwinn VFW 5670 Scholarship
Provides scholarships, based on demonstrated need, to graduating Gwinn High School seniors who are pursuing a certificate or degree at an institution of higher education.
Valente Family Music and Art Scholarship
Provides financial assistance to graduating seniors of Gwinn High School who have been involved in high school music or art, are known to show empathy for others, and who will be pursuing post-secondary education.
Ishpeming Scholarships
Andy Nault Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund
Provides financial assistance to graduating Ishpeming High School seniors who have participated in athletics while attending HIS, have a 2.5 GPA or better, and will be attending a college or university. Character and citizenship will be important considerations of the selection committee.
Carolyn Lalas Music Scholarship Endowment Fund
Provides music scholarships for students of Ishpeming High School as the Foundation may determine.
Douglas & Elizabeth Larson Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance for graduating seniors of Ishpeming High School who are enrolled in a college or university as to continue their education.
Frank and Elizabeth Buytaert Memorial Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance to Ishpeming High School Seniors who has met the following criteria: applied and have been accepted to a 4-year college, university program, or 2-year Skilled Technical School or Associates Program; maintained 3.0 or higher GPA during the first 7 semesters at Ishpeming High School; demonstrates strong work ethic, good character, and good citizenship; demonstrates financial need.
Gerald J. Anderson Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance to graduating seniors of Ishpeming High School who have been accepted into a program for teacher certification in special education at an institution of higher education. The eligible applicant with the highest-grade point, determined at the midpoint of the student’s senior year, shall be the recipient of the scholarship for that school year.
Henrietta Nardi Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance to graduating seniors of Negaunee and Ishpeming High School who are high academic achievers, who demonstrate need, and who are pursuing a degree at an institution of higher education. Scholarship alternates between Negaunee (even years) and Ishpeming (odd years).
Independent Order of Odd Fellows
Provides financial assistance to students of Ishpeming, Westwood, and Negaunee High Schools, who will be attending a four-year college or university, trade school, or will be working toward an associate degree.
Ishpeming High School Student Citizenship Scholarship
Provides financial assistance to students who are examples of good citizenship and good character, and are pursuing a collage/university education.
John M. Croze Memorial Scholarship
Provides scholarships to Ishpeming High School students pursuing math and science related fields. There is no minimum GPA requirement; student athletes are the preferred recipients.
Mossimo James Romeli Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund
Provides financial assistance for graduating seniors of Ishpeming High School who are enrolled in a college or university as to continue their education.
Patricia DeVold Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance for Ishpeming High School students pursuing a career in the field of education at Northern Michigan University.
The Dr. William Bee Sivula Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance to high school seniors of Ishpeming High School who are pursuing baccalaureate degrees at any four-year university.
The Nelson Family Foundation: Edna Arsenault Scholarship
Provides scholarships to graduating seniors of Ishpeming High School who will be pursuing certification or a degree at an institution of higher education.
The Nelson Family Foundation: Suzan Chinn Scholarship
Provides scholarships to graduating seniors of Ishpeming High School who will be pursuing certification or a degree at an institution of higher education.
The William and Jean Hocking Memorial Scholarship Fund
Provides scholarships to graduating seniors of Ishpeming High School.
Tsu Ming and Joy L. Han Scholarship Fund
Provides scholarships to graduates of Ishpeming High School who are pursuing a technical, associate, or baccalaureate degree.
Marquette Scholarships
Marquette Senior High School Class of 1977 Scholarship Fund
Provides scholarships to MSHS graduating students who best represent the character, ideals and drive of the Class of 1977. The recipient shall use the scholarship to pursue a college degree or vocational education program of their choice.
Mary Beth Lorsbach Scholarship
Provides scholarships to graduating students of Marquette Senior High School. Preference will be given to students plan to become educators, who plan on majoring in English, Social Studies, or the Arts, or students who demonstrate financial need.
Meggan Eiben Memorial Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance to students of Marquette Area Public Schools entering a college educational program in the field of teaching.
The Bernhardt L. Pederson Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance to graduating seniors of Marquette High School who will be pursuing a certificate or degree at the University of Michigan.
Negaunee Scholarships
Betty Holman Memorial Scholarship
Provides financial assistance to graduating seniors of Negaunee High School who are pursuing a college degree, and who demonstrate financial need.
George and Jonelle Collins Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance for graduating Negaunee High School students who plan to attend a vocational school or university, have a minimum 2.5 GPA, are a child or grandchild of a NHS graduate, demonstrate a financial need, and are involved in school and community activities.

John Basolo NIT Service Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance to Negaunee High School seniors who are pursuing higher education at a college or university. There is no GPA requirement of the applicant, preference will be given to the students who have demonstrated service to their community.
Negaunee Environmental Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance for students who attend Negaunee Public Schools and are pursuing a career in an environmental related field, or as the Foundation may determine.
Negaunee Public Schools Citizenship Scholarship Fund
Provides scholarships to graduating seniors of Negaunee High School, and this fund has done so since 1998.
Robert and Mary (Romback) Prudom Negaunee High School Scholarship
Provides scholarships to Negaunee High School and assist qualifying students in their higher education pursuits.
Rudy and Darley Kemppainen Scholarship Fund
Provides scholarships to graduating Negaunee High School seniors based on financial need.
Sydney W. Northey Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance to graduating seniors of Negaunee High School who will be pursuing a certificate or degree at an institution of higher education in the field of music.
The Dr. E. William & Dorothy A. Sivula Scholarship Fund
Provides scholarships for Negaunee High School graduates who are pursuing baccalaureate degrees at four-year universities.
The Elliot Family Memorial Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance to graduating seniors of Negaunee High School who have participated in the music program, and who will be pursuing certification or a degree at an institution of higher education. Preference will be given to those who are entering into the music field.
The Levine Family Scholarship Fund
Provides scholarships which recognize student achievement at Negaunee High School and assist qualifying students in their pursuits of college degrees.
The Nelson Family Foundation: Dr. Jim Lehto Scholarship
Provides scholarships to graduating seniors of Negaunee High School.
The NHS Class of 1987 Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance to graduating seniors of Negaunee High School who will be pursuing a certificate or degree at an institution of higher education or trade, who have at least a 2.0 GPA, and who demonstrate financial need.
The Raymond Pajula Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance to graduating seniors of Negaunee High School who will be pursuing an education in the construction, building trades, or other related field.
The Saima Kuivila Education Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance to a graduating seniors of Negaunee High School who will be pursuing a degree at an institution of higher education.
The Saima Kuivila Salutatorian Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance to the salutatorian of the graduation class of Negaunee High School who will be pursuing certification or a degree at an institution of higher education.
Waino and Joanne Liuha Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance to graduating seniors of Negaunee High School who will be pursuing a certificate or degree at an institution of higher education, and who demonstrate financial need.
Westwood Scholarships
Independent Order of Odd Fellows
Provides funding to students of Ishpeming, Westwood and Negaunee High Schools, who will be attending a four-year college, university, or trade school, or who will be working toward an associate degree.
The Bob Hart/Bill Tuohimaa Memorial Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance to a students from Westwood High School who are attending or will be attending Michigan Technological University.
The Nelson Family Foundation: Gordon Chinn Scholarship
Provides scholarships to graduating Westwood High School seniors.
The Nelson Family Foundation: Kitty Kososki
Provides scholarships to graduating Westwood High School seniors.
Westwood High School Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance to graduates of Westwood High School to encourage said students to pursue post-secondary educational endeavors.
Other Scholarships
Anna L. Tobin Scholarship Endowment Fund
Provides financial assistance for students of Ishpeming High School pursuing a career in the performing arts, as the Foundation may determine. In the event there are no candidates from the Ishpeming High School, candidates may be considered from both the Negaunee and Westwood High Schools.
Barbara Hammerberg Memorial Scholarship Fund
Provides scholarships to students in Marquette and Delta Counties for post-secondary education.
Bernadette Reider Scholarship Fund
Provides scholarships to students from Marquette County who are entering into a college educational program in the field of nursing.
Evergreen Award of Marquette County Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance to individuals residing in Marquette County who meet the following criteria: have not had the opportunity to continue their formal education, represent life-long learning interests, have an established history of service/commitment to others in the community, and demonstrate financial need for educational support.
Father Vincent L. Ouellette Scholarship Endowment Fund
Provides financial assistance for graduating high school students who are members of the St. Joseph’s Parish and will be pursuing a degree at a four year college or university.
Hunter Negri Memorial Bowling Scholarship
Provides scholarships to one male and one female winner of the Junior Gold Qualifier Bowling Tournament. If two tournaments are held within a year, up to four equal scholarships may be awarded.
Leah Andrews Choral Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance for students to attend a choral summer music camp during the summer after 6th, 7th, 8th, or 9th grade.
Matt Davidson Memorial Scholarship Fund
Provides scholarships to up to two eligible applicants, one male and one female in the amount of $500.00 each. To be eligible, applicants must be a graduating student of Republic – Michigamme Schools, and exhibit strong work ethic and the ability and willingness to work as part of a team.
Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 25 Memorial Scholarship
Provides financial assistance for children (who are seeking post-secondary education) of members who have died while actively serving with NMCB 25.
Saint Paul’s School Commemorative Fund
Provides financial assistance to members of St. Paul’s Parish who will be pursuing certification or a degree at an institution of higher education.
Stuart L. Sundblad Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund
Provides financial assistance to stuents graduating from Ishpeming High School or Westwood High School (or their successors) who will be attending Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI, as a full-time student and who has maintained a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale during high school.
The Francine L. Malindzak Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance to graduating seniors who have been members of the Marquette Mountain Racing Team, active in alpine ski racing, and plan to pursue higher education.
The Fred Waara Chapter of Trout Unlimited/Cynthia Kitzman-Fred Waara Memorial Scholarship
Provides financial assistance to students residing in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula who are endeavoring in a cold-water fisheries curriculum at Northern Michigan University, Lake Superior State, and Michigan Technological University as undergraduate or graduate students.
The Mark Ulrickson Memorial Scholarship Fund
Provides scholarships to graduating seniors in Marquette County who are enrolled at a college or university, and who demonstrate financial need.
The Paul W. and Pearl K. Goodman Music Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance for individuals attending the NICE School District (grades 3 to 10, based on financial need) to take part in instrumental and vocal music lessons.
The Schenk Scholarship Legacy Fund
Provides scholarships to graduates from Forest Park High School who have participated in a varsity sport, as a player or manager, for a minimum of two consecutive years and/or two consecutive years in an extracurricular activity, and who have been accepted into a two- or four-year vocational school, college, or university.
Walter J. Crimmins Scholarship Fund
Provides financial assistance for graduating seniors of Ishpeming High School or Westwood High School who are enrolled in a college or university as to continue their education.
William B. Larson Memorial Scholarship
Provides scholarships for graduating seniors of Ishpeming, Negaunee, and Westwood High Schools. The Fund aims to award three scholarships of equal amount annually to eligible applicants based on the following criteria: Students must be graduating seniors pursuing higher education in the field of business administration, they must demonstrate financial need, and have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
